Bonjour Jane! There are definitely cheeses at those hiking lunches, and bread. People often bring only a fork and an opinel knife (made in Savoie), and a bottle opener for the wine. Some people bring homemade salads, others bring sandwiches. Always dessert too! People bring coolers to carry some of the items, although often it isn't hot enough that it would spoil after a morning of hiking even if not in a cooler.
This was a really fun read! As a Polish person in the us I felt like hiking is very serious here 😅
