I loved getting to hear these thoughts and about your travel experiences outside the Midwest. It’s a tricky thing, having a following on social media and an algorithm that holds you to posting for your specific niche in order to be successful on there. I love your Midwest content so much, *and* it’s nice to hear your other thoughts on Substack.

Oh wow that's so fun! Honestly I'm sure you know better than me! We just did the Royal Palace museum and then wandered the Christmas markets for a while and enjoyed being in the city!

It was cool! It was definitely more a treasure horde than a museum!

It's so good to hear that you took some time off to visit a college friend. I love Germany, my father was born and raised there. I know I have relatives there but lost contact since my parents passed away. The wife and I both went over there when our son was stationed there. We really enjoyed it but unfortunately just didn't have enough time to travel around. I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks.

Thanks Rich! Germany is really incredible! So far I've been twice, both times to see my friend in the winter. Would love to head over in the summer sometime :)

Nice writing as always. The post war reconstruction of Germany’s major cities is something to behold - Central Berlin, Koln, Dussedorf, Hamburg, Munich are near perfect restorations. Smaller industrial cities were not so lovingly restored. Lots on 50’s low end construction. The saddest thing is the area bombing by both sides did not work. The destruction and death was for nothing. You’ll know that Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse 5 was a product of his experience being in Dresden during the firebombing.

Germany is my favorite countries and the only place I’m regularly mistaken for a local, make of that what you will. On my way to snowy Munising today…. Where I am not mistaken for a local.

The restorations are really incredible! I heard lots about Slaughterhouse 5 while there-- my fiance Andy was reading it on the flight over. Also frequently mistaken for a local in Germany! Most of my family is from there a few generations back but every time someone asks me for directions it makes me laugh a little
