Maddy, I'm sorry for your loss. Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful woman. Reading this brought back memories of my own grandmother who we lost 23 years ago and I miss her everyday.

I recently found out that I'll become a grandma this fall and hope that I can provide wonderful memories like these to my grandchildren.

Thank you so much for writing such a personal account of the relationship between you and your grandma. Such special memories, which you will cherish indefinitely. Now that I have a grandson I am using the lessons, from my parents and grandmother, as a model for my relationship with Nico. It is about time spent together and special adventures, hopefully producing lasting memories as he grows up.

I found the hurt at losing such a close family member gradually subsides but the memories become stronger. Please don't dwell on the ugly baby label, there is no such thing as an ugly baby, they are all beautiful.

Best wishes at such a difficult time.

Deepest sympathy to you and your family, Maddy. Your post was a great tribute to the role your grandma played in your life. Thanks for giving us a glimpse into your relationship with her. Grandparents have played a huge role in my life and it made me remember and think about them as you told about your grandma. Now, I am a grandpa and we just spent the day with our precious 4 grandchildren. Being a grandparent is a blessing! A difficult part of life is that it passes so quickly and that our time here on earth has an ending. Sounds like your grandma loved being your grandma and I'm pretty sure she recognized the beauty in you as a baby and throughout your life. I bet she proudly told everyone about your big kayak trip too.

Prayers for your family.

Thank you Tom & Deb!

Grandma was definitely proud of all of us, and very interested in hearing about the kayak trip! I think for me especially with both of my grandma's I've been very lucky to have their full support and approval of al my adventures; it's the sort of thing they wish they could've done when they were younger, but times were different. There's a lot of "well I could've done that, if things had been different, but I'm sure glad that you are and I get to watch and hear about it".

I bet your grandkids are the luckiest grandkids in the world to have such fun and adventurous grandparents!

Thank you for the well wishes, and wishing you all a very happy summer!

My condolences to you and your family. It always hurts to lose a loved one. It shows the depth of your love. The people that you love and lose in their earthly form are always with you, bringing you orange juice when you don't feel well. Best wishes.

Also. I have been around long enough to have seen ugly babies. You are not it. Take care.

Ha! I'm not sure, the word "potato" has been used as a descriptor in the past!
